While in college, he co-founded an evangelistic campus fellowship and became convinced of a call to ministry. Upon graduation, he joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ, working with college students for six years, first in Cincinnati and then on the campus of Indiana University.
Through this early time in ministry, he became convinced of a call to a ministry of pastoring and teaching God's word. Thus, he entered Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, and subsequently graduated with a three-year Master of Divinity degree.
Enthusiastic about the interest in Clayton for a new church to be established here, John and his family moved to Clayton at the end of 1998. He served as a church-planting apprentice and assistant pastor at our mother church in Raleigh for 9 months, then began our church with worship services here in Clayton on September 12, 1999.
He continues to enjoy the church immensely, especially the people, and would love for you to join us for worship on Sunday, if you haven't already!
2009 Clayton 5k, coming to the finish.
John grew up in Upstate New York and Central Ohio and came to faith in Christ in the eighth grade. He attended Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, where he captained the varsity soccer team (once scored a hat trick!), was an active member in his fraternity, and earned a BA in Pre-Medicine and English. In 1989, he married Betsy, who enjoys people and likes to laugh. He and Betsy have five daughters in four schools--Duke University, Clayton High, Riverwood Middle, and Riverwood Elementary.
